In a bid to compete against Googleand Perplexity AI, OpenAIhas introduced SearchGPT–an AI-based search engine that gives users access to real-time sources.

The company in a blog announced a limited launch of its prototype with AI search features, to gather feedback from selected users and publishers. It further plans on integrating the ‘best features’ directly into ChatGPT in the future.

“Getting answers on the web can take a lot of effort, often requiring multiple attempts to get relevant results. We believe that by enhancing the conversational capabilities of our models with real-time information from the web, finding what you’re looking for can be faster and easier,” the blog post read.

SearchGPT claims to quickly and directly respond to user inquiries with the latest information available on the internet, providing clear links to the sources.

“You’ll be able to ask follow-up questions, like you would in a conversation with a person, with the shared context building with each query. SearchGPT is designed to help users connect with publishers by prominently citing and linking to them in searches. Responses have clear, in-line, named attribution and links so users know where information is coming from and can quickly engage with even more results in a sidebar with source links,” the company stated.
