HanuMan box office collection day 5: Teja Sajja’s superhero film overtakes Guntur Kaaram, flies past Rs 100 crore mark worldwide | Telugu News
The Telugu-language mythological superhero film HanuMan has overtaken Mahesh Babu’s top dog, Guntur Kaaram, in terms of daily collections. Having opened to around a fifth of what Guntur Kaaram made on its first day of release, HanuMan has soared on the strength of positive word-of-mouth, despite having a smaller budget, no major stars, and a young director.
On its fifth day of release, HanuMan made Rs 12.75 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film had opened to Rs 8 crore, but showed an improvement in collections during the weekend. On day four, a Monday, it actually made Rs 15 crore, marking a slight 5% decline from Sunday’s Rs 16 crore collections. HanuMan’s overall domestic earnings now stand at Rs 68 crore, which means that it has a shot at hitting the Rs 100 crore mark domestically by Friday or Saturday.
Directed by Prashanth Varma and starring Teja Sajja, HanuMan reported 68% occupancy on day five for the Telugu version. Evening and night shows were the most popular, reporting 70% occupancy. Shows in Hyderabad and Vijayawada ran at over 90% occupancy, but the film’s Hindi version only saw a 12% occupancy on day five, suggesting that the film is yet to properly cross over. On the other hand, Guntur Kaaram reportedly earned Rs 11 crore in India on day five, taking its domestic collections to Rs 94 crore.
Globally, HanuMan has hit the Rs 100 crore mark, according to trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan. Factoring in Tuesday’s domestic collections, the film’s total stands at Rs 112 crore, at least. HanuMan made $2.3 million (Rs 19 crore) from just 430 screens in its opening weekend at the US box office, encouraging its domestic distributor to increase its screen count, according to a Variety report. A sequel, titled Jai Hanuman, will reportedly be released in 2025.
