Eye on Lok Sabha polls, former Congress & AAP leaders among 2,000 inducted by BJP | Ahmedabad News
More than 2,000 former workers and office-bearers of the opposition Congress and the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP joined the BJP in Gujarat on Tuesday, said the ruling party. They joined the party in the presence of Gujarat BJP chief CR Paatil and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at an event held at ‘Shree Kamalam’, the party state headquarters in Gandhinagar, as per an official release.
Former Leader of Opposition in Rajkot district panchayat Arjun Khatariya, Rajkot district president of Seva Dal Kishorsinh Jadeja and four members of Rajkot district panchayat – Shardaben Dhaduk, Mira Bhalodia, Gita Chavda and Gita Chauhan – were among those who joined the party, highlighted the party’s statement.
As per the official statement, those who joined the BJP include members of various district and taluka panchayats, former candidates of assembly elections, leaders of the cooperative sector, and former corporators.
The leaders from Rajkot who joined BJP include Arjun Khatariya, district panchayat members Shardaben Dhaduk, Miraben Bhalodiya, Gitaben Chavda and Gitaben Chauhan, Narendrasinh Jadeja, Babubhai Savaliya, Suresh Lunagariya, Meenaben Thakar and Kishorsinh Jadeja.
Paatil welcomed all the new members and said they were ‘strengthening hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by joining BJP’, the release stated.
On the occasion, Paatil cited various decisions of Modi for the welfare of farmers, women, poor, and youths. “As Gujarat CM, Modi introduced 50% reservation for women in local bodies. As PM, he has now introduced 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. He also took steps to double farmers’ income. Every year, Rs 6,000 is deposited in the bank accounts of farmers…”
