Competitive exams: Punjab launches ‘Super 5000’ project; selected students to get extra coaching | Chandigarh News

The Punjab education department has launched “Super 5000” programme to provide extra coaching to select science students to help them prepare for competitive exams.
According to the order issued by director, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the selected 5,000 meritorious science students will be provided study material, extra classes, doubt-clearing sessions and offered mentoring to prepare for competitive exams such as JEE, NEET and others.
The instructions issued by the director, SCERT, say that 5,000 students will be selected from both government meritorious residential schools and other government schools. In the government meritorious schools, already good students are getting extra coaching for the competitive exams.
The order states that all science students from meritorious schools will be included in Super 5000 group whereas the other government schools will select 10% from their strength whom teachers feel have the potential to clear such exams and extra coaching can help them further.
The order further states that each meritorious school principal will also select a “nodal in-charge” for Super 5000 project who will supervise the activities in the districts allotted to him/her. For instance, the Government Meritorious School, Ludhiana, will supervise coaching for selected students in Ludhiana and Moga districts. Similarly, the nodal head from Bathinda meritorious school will supervise coaching of students from Bathinda, Muktsar and Mansa districts.
The nodal officers will also provide study material to all schools, create WhatsApp groups and provide information such as date of registration, how to apply and other related information to the students.
The project will also have subject-wise nodal heads including that for maths, physics, biology and chemistry.
