Anurag Kashyap says nobody has the right to tell Sandeep Reddy Vanga what kind of films he should make | Bollywood News

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal has been the talk of the town ever since it was released in theatres. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer is making waves at the box office, drawing mixed to negative reactions from audiences. Certain scenes and dialogues from the film have even sparked discussions on social media. Now, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has said that “educated” people shouldn’t be offended by films like Animal. He brought up the example of the criticism faced by the movie Kabir Singh.
In an interview with News18 Showsha, Kashyap shared that he is yet to watch Animal and said that he is aware of the conversations that are happening online. The filmmaker said, “Nobody has the right to tell a filmmaker what kind of films they should and shouldn’t make. People in this country get easily offended with films. They get offended with my films too. But I expect educated people to not get offended at the drop of a hat.”
He added, “This discussion happened during Kabir Singh too. Filmmakers have the right to make any film they want to and represent what they want to. We can criticise, argue and disagree with them. Films either provoke or evoke. I’ve no problem with filmmakers that make provocative cinema.”
According to Anurag Kashyap, morality is a very subjective thing and he said that 80 percent of Indian men are like Kabir Singh. The filmmaker also pointed out problems in Kabir Singh and said, “The only problem with that film was that the other characters didn’t have agency. They were only used to prop up the central character. That’s a discussion that needs to happen. Healthy debates should happen. We can’t be standing and cancelling each other.”
Kashyap is excited to watch the movie Animal and he plans to talk to the film’s director after watching it. The Dev D director prefers direct communication and mentions that if he has any issues with a film, he always calls up the filmmaker instead of discussing it on social media.
