Murder case convict goes missing from Pune’s Yerwada jail, probe on | Pune News
A convict in a murder case has gone missing from the Yerwada Central Prison. Ashish Bharat Jadhav was found absent during the daily counting of inmates done by jail officials on Monday afternoon.
Police sub-inspector Ashok Kate said Jadhav is suspected to have fled from the open jail. “He was not found in his barrack when the counting of jail inmates was done. We have launched a probe,” said Kate.
Hemant Patil, Jail Officer (open jail), lodged the First Information Report (FIR) in this case at the Yerwada police station. The police have booked Jadhav under Section 224 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the police, Jadhav is a notorious criminal who was named as accused in a murder case lodged at the Warje Malwadi police station in Pune in 2008. A court held him guilty under IPC sections 302, 307, and 34 and sections of the Indian Arms Act. The court sentenced Jadhav to life imprisonment.
Since then he has been serving his sentence at the Yerwada Central Prison. He was given work in the ration department of the prison, police said.
A probe is on to find out how he escaped from the prison and efforts are on to trace him, said the police.
