Former pro-VC of Mumbai University attacked at his residence in Kalyan | Mumbai News
Ashok Pradhan, a former pro-vice-chancellor (pro-VC) of Mumbai University, was allegedly attacked on Sunday by a few people at his residence in Kalyan.
One of the accused, identified as Sanjay Jadhav, was a lecturer in a private educational institute where Pradhan, 84, is part of the educational committee. According to information shared by the police, on Sunday evening, Jadhav, 50, visited Pradhan’s residence hoping for reinstatement as a lecturer. Other unidentified people, including a woman and a minor, accompanied him.
Shailesh Salvi, senior police inspector of the Mahatma Phule police station, said, “Jadhav was terminated from a private educational institution a few years ago where he was a lecturer. Pradhan is part of the educational committee of that institution. Jadhav hoped that if Pradhan put in a good word, he would be reinstated as a lecturer. But the conversation turned into an argument.”

After Pradhan was assaulted physically, his wife, who was present at home, immediately informed the police. A team from Mahatma Phule police station reached Pradhan’s residence and took him to hospital where he was treated for bruises before being discharged.
Salvi said, “We have filed an FIR, and a pre-arrest notice under Section 41 (of CrPC) has been sent to the accused.”
According to MU officials, Pradhan was pro-VC at Mumbai University during the late 90s for only two or three years. He then became vice-chancellor at the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU).
