American singer Nick Jonas, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13 in 2005, often spreads awareness about the disease. In a recent interview, he shared how his actor-wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas has supported him and is fully aware of what precautions to take whenever his blood sugar levels drop. He also said that he plans to educate his daughter Malti Marie Jonas about the disease and what it means when her father has a low blood sugar level.

While speaking to Aol.com, Jonas shared that he opened up about his disease to Priyanka quite early in their relationship. He also referred to her as “an incredible partner” as she not only knows about the disease but is also aware of what needs to be done in case of an emergency. He also revealed that he shares his blood sugar level with Priyanka through an app so that she is aware of any sort of emergency.

He said, “I think it was important early in our relationship to set the stage with what it feels like. For a person not living with the disease, it’s hard to explain what it feels like from a physical perspective but also an emotional perspective. She’s been an absolutely incredible partner, not just with the management of the disease—she’s fully educated on what to do in any scenario—but also as a parent now.”

Jonas shared that he has been even more careful about his health ever since the birth of his daughter Malti as he wants to live for her and “create memories with her”. He said, “I think your focus and kind of attention to detail on your health clicks into a different gear because you’re now not just living for yourself, you’re living to be there and share as many memories and be as present as you can be with this little angel.”

The singer also had moments when his blood sugar level dropped when Malti needed attention. “There were days early in our daughter being home where a low would hit me right as she needed a bottle or needed my attention for something and it was a very new thing to experience,” he shared. It was instances like these which made Nick Jonas decide that he would educate his daughter about diabetes.

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra got married in December 2018. The couple welcomed their first child together through surrogacy in January 2022.
