The source of the mysterious green liquid was later identified as a dye commonly used by plumbers to detect leaks in the city’s sanitation lines. Contrary to initial concerns, officials assured the public that the bright green colour posed no harm.
The liquid was observed seeping from crates, manholes, and sewers, creating a spectacle that sent onlookers into a state of panic.
Social media users, ever quick with humour, seized the opportunity to share their reactions. Posts ranged from references to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with one user quipping, “Anybody else just think about the ninja turtles?” to a more nonchalant perspective with comments like “average NYC experience.” A third user clarified the situation, stating, “It’s dye for testing sanitation lines, it’s for detecting leaks.”
