A newly installed bus stop “worth Rs 10 lakh” has disappeared from Cunningham Road in Bengaluru, leaving both authorities and citizens puzzled. The incident occurred just one week after the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation installed the high-priced bus stop, equipped with steel shafts.
The disappearance came to light only when N Ravi Reddy, associate vice-president of the construction company overseeing the installation, filed a police complaint. The delay in reporting the theft has also raised questions, with authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding the unusual incident.

Word about the incident circulated on social media, particularly through posts by @whatsaroundbengaluru and @bangalore_malayalees on Instagram, triggering varied reactions. Some expressed shock at the hefty price tag of the bus stop, while others found the entire situation peculiar.
One Instagram user asked, “How is a bus stop worth 10 lakh? Moreover, how the hell do you steal a bus stop? What in the heist is this?” Another user humorously suggested, “Snatch some buses not bus stops…it helps in traffic, and robbers can be proud of helping the citizens.”
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred in Bengaluru as the city seems to have a peculiar history of bus stop disappearances. In 2015, the Doopanahalli bus stop near Horizon School vanished overnight, and in 2014, a 20-year-old bus stop disappeared in BEML Layout III Stage, Rajarajeshwarinagar.
