Police oppose Chaitar Vasava’s anticipatory bail plea citing ‘criminal history’ | Baroda News

Citing his “criminal history” with 12 previous FIRs registered against him, the Narmada district police Thursday opposed the anticipatory bail plea moved by “missing” Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava before the Narmada district Sessions Court. The court has reserved its order for a day.
The court has also reserved the order for the regular bail plea of his wife Shakuntala, personal assistant Jitendra and farmer Ramesh Vasava, who were sent to police custody for two days on Wednesday. Shakuntala, who is currently hospitalised at the Rajpipla Civil Hospital, is in judicial custody.
Chaitar and the three arrested are among the nine booked in an alleged case of rioting, extortion and assault of forest officers on November 2.
The prosecution informed the court that the police was yet to recover the pistol allegedly used by Chaitar to fire in the air in order to allegedly intimidate the forest officials at his residence on the night of October 30, when the incident is said to have occurred as per the FIR. It also informed the court that the police need to “recover the money paid by forest officers for extortion”.

Defence lawyer KJ Tadvi, however, argued that the case against the Gujarat Working President of the Aam Aadmi Party was “nothing but fabricated”. Tadvi told the court that the recovery of the pistol was “unnecessary as the alleged firing never took place”.
He also countered the prosecution contention that the alleged incident of assault against the forest officials was for “extortion”. On Chaitar’s ‘criminal past’, Tadvi stated that he has “already been acquitted in all cases, except one, which is before the High Court”.
Meanwhile, sources in the AAP said that party General Secretary Sandeep Pathak will visit Dediapada Friday to meet the family of Chaitar Vasava, who has been evading the police since the FIR was lodged at Dediapada police station on November 2.
