Four days after a 25-year-old labourer was booked for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl from his neighbourhood, the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun on Monday evening recovered the bodies of the accused’s mother and younger sister at their residence.
A villager, who went to the accused’s house for some work, found the bodies of women and immediately informed others as well as the police on Monday evening.
The police said the bodies of the women have been sent for postmortem examination and its reports are awaited. No suicide note has been found, they added.
Residents claimed the women took the extreme step because of regular harassment by the police who had been visiting their house in connection with the kidnapping case. However, the police denied the allegation.
According to the police, the girl’s father had lodged a First Information Report (FIR) on November 4 stating his 17-year-old daughter had gone to market a day before and did not return home.
“While I was searching for my daughter, I came to know that my daughter was kidnapped by a youth staying next to my house. I was also told that the youth’s 20-year-old younger brother had helped him in the kidnapping,” said the father, who works as a labourer at a brick kiln.
On the father’s complaint, the police lodged an FIR on charges of kidnapping against the brothers at the area police station. The complainant as well as the accused belongs to the backward class.
The village pradhan said since the FIR was lodged, the police were regularly conducting raids at the accused’s house. Fearing police action, the father of the accused also went into hiding, added the pradhan. “It could be possible that women took the extreme step because of harassment and regular visits of the cops at their residence,” said the pradhan.
The police denied the allegation and said the family of the accused was ashamed because of the case lodged against the two men.
