Kangana Ranaut’s aerial actioner Tejas has crashed at the box office, and there seems to be no saving grace for the film. The Sarvesh Mewara directorial, which barely saw any footfall over its first weekend, on weekdays, has been entirely rejected by the audience.
The industry tracker Sacnilk reported that on Tuesday, the film did a business of Rs 35 lakh, with occupancy as low as 5.80% in the Hindi-speaking market. This has brought the entire five-day earnings of the film to Rs 4.50 crore, which is a dismal number given that the audience has returned to the theatres, as evident from the box office performance of the recent releases.
On Monday, many shows of Tejas were cancelled due to the no-show of the audience. Manoj Desai who runs Mumbai’s Gaiety told Bollywood Hungama that the highest attendance they recorded was 100 viewers for a Sunday show. “For the rest of the shows, the number of moviegoers was less than 100,” he said. Other exhibitors also reported similar stories.
The box office performance of Tejas is in line with Kangana’s previous four releases, including Dhaakad, Thalaivii, Panga, and Judgementall Hai Kya. Before that, in 2019, her historical war drama Manikarnika did an average business. But that too came after four consecutive flops, including Katti Batti, Simran, and Rangoon.

A closer look at Kangana’s film career, which began in 2006 with the romantic thriller Gangster, indicates that the actor has managed to deliver only five hits in over 17 years. Some of her only box office hits include the 2009 film Raaz – The Mystery Continues, Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns. Tanu Weds Manu, Life in a Metro and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai could register an average performance at the ticket counters.
In comparison, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, which was released along with Tejas and got fewer screens than the Kangana-starrer, has become more popular among cinephiles. It earned Rs 1.75 crore on Tuesday and brought its total collection to Rs 9.99 crore.
Since Tejas has tanked at the box office, now the fans of Kangana have put all their hope in her next political drama, Emergency, which is scheduled for a 2024 release.
