Pakistan is tightening its policy on illegal immigrants, including several from neighbouring Afghanistan. Today, it gave a final deadline, asking them to leave the country voluntarily before a November 1 deadline or risk being moved to detention centres.
The country had first announced the move in October after it allegedly identified several Afghan nationals as being involved in crimes, smuggling and attacks against the government and the army, including 14 out of 24 suicide bombings this year. “All the illegal immigrants have been identified. The state has a complete data,” said Interim Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti in a press conference, as per a Reuters report. “I want to appeal one more time that all the illegal immigrants should leave voluntarily by the deadline.”

Pakistan sets up deportation centers to hold migrants who are in the country illegally
Pakistan is setting up deportation centers for migrants who are in the country illegally, including an estimated 1.7 million Afghans, officials said today. Anyone found staying in the country without authorisation from next Wednesday will be arrested and sent to one of centers.
The move is the latest development in a Pakistani government crackdown to expel foreigners without registration or documents. Jan Achakzai, a spokesman for the government in southwestern Pakistan’s Baluchistan province, said three deportation centers were being set up there. One will be in Quetta, the provincial capital. Azam Khan, the caretaker chief minister for northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said the region also would have three deportation centers. (AP)

India slams Pakistan for raising Kashmir issue during Israel-Hamas Debate at UNSC
India slammed Pakistan for raising the Kashmir issue in the midst of a debate meant for the Israel-Gaza situation and termed the action as of a ‘habitual nature’. R Ravindra, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR) to the United Nations yesterday before concluding his remarks at the forum called that the remarks from the Pakistan side unworthy of a response and not worth dignifying.
“Before I end, there was a remark of habitual nature by one delegation referring to Union Territories that are integral and inalienable parts of my country,” Ravindra said, adding, “I would treat these remarks with the contempt they deserve and not dignify them with a response in the interest of time.” He also underlined New Delhi’s efforts to send humanitarian assistance to civilians in the Gaza Strip, amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, saying that it has sent 38 tons of food and critical medical equipment to the region.
