The festival of Halloween is round the corner and it is synonymous with pumpkins that are traditionally used as decorations. The Cincinnati Zoo in the US got into the festive mood as it fed pumpkins to its resident animals.
The zoo took to Instagram to post a video that showed its employees giving huge orange pumpkins to the hippopotamuses in the water. It is a spectacle to see the hippos crushing the pumpkins with one bite of their jaw. As the hippos break the pumpkins, its babies also try to nibble on the fruit that falls into the water. Many people are seen making videos of the hippos.
“It’s pumpkin-crushing season! Also known as Fiona, Fritz, Bibi and Tucker’s favorite time of year! Brought to you by @frischsbigboy,” the zoo posted as caption.

“You guys are so worried about the pumpkins like they aren’t hippos with jaws strong enough to crush our faces to dust lol. “Cut it up for them” lmao!!! Guys. They’re HIPPOS,” another netizen wrote.
“Hippos have the strongest bite force of all land animals, there’s no need at all to cut the pumpkin or remove the stem. The bite force is around 1800 psi,” another person posted.
The zoo also posted a video of giving the pumpkins to its elephants. The elephants are seen crushing the pumpkins with their feet before eating them with the help of their trunks.
“It’s pumpkin smash time with Schottzie and Jati! Elephants are incredibly strong. Their trunks can lift more than 700 pounds, yet also pick up a single blade of grass!” it wrote as caption.
