A team of Sakinaka police along with scuba divers did a search on Tuesday in Nashik’s Girna river for drug packets allegedly disposed of by drug racketeer Lalit Patil’s driver Sachin Wagh.

According to police, the search followed the revelation by Wagh during his interrogation. On Monday, police informed a city court that they suspect that Wagh had disposed of a large quantity of drugs on the directions of Patil.

After securing extension of police custody,  police took Wagh to Nashik’s Deola taluka where Wagh claimed to have dumped packets of mephedrone in the Girna river.

Mumbai police officials, however, did not reveal the outcome of the search.

The Mumbai police arrested Patil, who was  allegedly behind the multi-crore mephedrone racket busted by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police in 2020, from Channasandra village in Karnataka on October 17, after he escaped from Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital on October 2. The day after Patil’s arrest, his driver, Wagh, was also arrested.
