Delhi will get another cultural centre that will serve as a platform for children, young people, and artists to help them showcase their talent through different forms of art, dance and singing.

Spread across a one-acre plot, the centre will comprise an auditorium, with a seating capacity of 260 people, a training hall, an art gallery, a multi-purpose hall along with other facilities.

According to officials, the cultural centre is a project of the Department of Art, Culture and Development and the execution will be done by the Tourism Department.

“The centre is being planned in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri. Currently, Mandi House, in the central part of Delhi, is known as the hub of art and culture, with several prominent centres like Sahitya Kala Academy, National School of Drama, Shri Ram Centre, Triveni Kala Sangam etc… But this centre is too far for people residing in West and Outer Delhi. So, the government is planning to construct a centre in Vikaspuri, so more talent can get a platform,” said a government official.

The official further added, “The main objective is to provide a platform to young students, children and artists living in West Delhi, Dwarka sub-city and nearby areas to showcase their talents through different art forms — dance, singing, painting, drama and theatre, music festivals and art exhibitions etc… The centre, once constructed, will be managed by the Sahitya Kala Academy.”

“Tenders have already been floated… a company has been shortlisted… Work will be awarded soon,” said an official.
