A fresh weather system is brewing in the Bay of Bengal, which could cause widespread rainfall over the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal towards the end of this week.
As on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a cyclonic circulation emanating from the Gulf of Thailand had entered the south Andaman Sea.
“Under the influence of this system, a low pressure is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by Tuesday,” the IMD said in its forecast, issued on Monday morning.
As per the IMD’s weather models, this system will take a west-northwestwards track and reach the Odisha-West Bengal coasts around November 20. However, the Met department has yet to declare the probability of the system intensifying into a cyclone.
