The Pune city police have booked a case of attempted culpable homicide after a suspected stray bullet shattered the glass of a 10th-floor apartment in Aundh occupied by a Korean family. They are yet to find any concrete lead on the source of the bullet.

The incident was reported sometime between 6 and 6.15 am on Tuesday from the apartment at the Aloma County society located in the Nagras Road area, near Aundh Baner Link Road.

A 36-year-old South Korean national, who works as a research and development head with an automobile accessories company in Chakan, has been living in the apartment for the last one and a half years with his wife and three-year-old daughter.

When the glass of the sliding window of the apartment’s bedroom was shattered by a bullet, the family members were awakened by the loud noise. The police were subsequently informed and the bullet was recovered. It has been sent for forensic and ballistic analyses, reports of which are awaited.

“We have registered a case under Indian Penal Code section 308, which pertains to attempted culpable homicide. We are looking for clues in footage from the multiple security cameras installed on the premises of the residential society and outside. We have not been able to get any concrete lead yet. Our probe is on,” said an officer from the Chatushrungi police station.

The police have also invoked relevant provisions of the Arms Act also in the case.

On Tuesday the police said their initial investigation suggested the apartment’s occupants were not the intended targets of the bullet and that it could be a case of misfire from a firearm, a stray bullet that ricocheted from a surface or the bullet that missed the target.

The 36-year-old South Korean national is the complainant in the case.
