Citing the rise in the pollution levels across the NCR, Dhirendra Singh, BJP MLA of the Jewar constituency in Gautam Buddh Nagar, has written to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary to declare an environmental emergency in the affected areas.
“I am writing to you as a deeply concerned resident of Noida regarding the perilous rise in Air Quality Index (AQI) levels across Noida, Greater Noida, and the entire NCR…,” said Singh Friday in his letter to chief secretary DS Mishra.
He further said that when the AQI surpasses 300, it warrants a state of emergency, necessitating a halt in daily activities due to the risk of severe lung damage. “The air quality in Delhi-NCR has deteriorated to levels that have far exceeded the upper limit of 500… The AQI in Noida has soared beyond the 1,000 ppm mark,” added the MLA.

Singh further said the persistent smog and poor air quality are leading to an alarming increase in respiratory illnesses and posing a significant health risk, especially to the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
“Temporarily halt all industrial activities contributing to emissions. Restrict vehicular traffic, possibly introducing an odd-even rule or promoting work from home, to reduce congestion and pollution. Fast-track the implementation of pollution-control measures and the adoption of cleaner technologies,” said Singh to the chief secretary.
He also raised a demand to conduct an emergency audit of all construction sites, enforcing strict dust-control measures.
