Welcoming the Supreme Court’s order on Monday, directing Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar to make a decision by December 31 on disqualification petitions (against both the factions) filed in the aftermath of the rebellion in the Shiv Sena camp last year, the Shiv Sena (UBT) said that this will put an end to the “unconstitutional government’s circus” in Maharashtra.

“The hon’ble Supreme Court of India has set an end date for the unconstitutional circus going on in Maharashtra’s governance system. The Speaker, acting as tribunal, now must decide and not drag on the hearings in the matter…,” wrote Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray in a post on social media platform X.

The Supreme Court’s Monday order came as a rebuke for Speaker Narwekar, with the apex court expressing displeasure over the revised timetable and delay in adjudicating the disqualification petitions.

Speaker Narwekar on Monday, however, said that he has not gone through the order yet and will make a comment only after doing that. “I did not get a copy of the order, so, I am yet to read what it says. I cannot make a comment unless I go through the written order. There were arguments over the time limit. So, unless I go through the written order, I cannot say anything…,” said Narwekar.
