Following several complaints by students over the quality of food at Savitribai Phule Pune University, work is finally underway to systematically improve the canteen infrastructure and food served at the university.
Earlier this month and last month, insects were found in the food served at the university followed by student outrage and protest.
Taking cognisance of the matter a ‘Restaurant and Canteen Vigilance Committee’ has been formed by the administration to look into matters concerning food in the university, whether at canteens or hostel mess.
The committee headed by Rajendra Soma Ghode from the Hindi Department comprises six other members working at the university.
A four-member student committee called Canteen Quality Control Committee will work under the vigilance committee and will look into the quality of food and upkeep of canteens.
