Gurgaon Police have recovered the weapon allegedly used to murder former model Divya Pahuja from Palam Vihar Mod on Wednesday.
According to police, a joint operation with employees of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, involved in pruning bushes near Palam Vihar Mod on Old Delhi Road, led to the discovery. A thorough search operation was conducted in garbage and scrapyards at a large scale following which a pistol and a live cartridge used to commit the murder were recovered, police added.
Divya, a resident of Baldev Nagar, was killed at City Point Hotel in Sector 14 on January 2. Her body was taken in a BMW by two of the accused and dumped in Punjab’s Pasiana. However, it had floated and reached Haryana’s Tohana, 150 km away, and was fished out by police last week.
Police have arrested six people so far: Hotel owner Abhijeet Singh; hotel staff Omprakash and Hemraj, who allegedly helped Singh move the body; Megha, who allegedly helped Singh dispose of the body; Punjab and Haryana HC lawyer Balraj Gill who helped dispose of the body; and Parvesh who supplied arms to Singh.
Police said Abhijeet was sent to judicial custody on Wednesday.
A senior police officer said that they are yet to recover Divya’s iPhone which was also disposed of by the accused. “… The phone was disposed of as Abhijeet did not want us to find certain things, but we will recover it soon. We have sent Divya’s second phone to the forensic department,” he added.
Divya was arrested in 2016 for allegedly providing information to Haryana Police on the whereabouts of gangster Sandeep Gadoli, leading to him being killed in an alleged fake encounter at a Mumbai hotel. She was granted bail last year.
An FIR in the case was filed on a complaint by Divya’s sister.
