Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon is currently busy promoting her upcoming show Karmma Calling. Raveena, who made her digital debut with Aranyak, was initially the top pick for the lead role in Aarya. Eventually, the role in the Ram Madhvani-directed series went to Sushmita Sen.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Raveena opened up about why she had to reject Aarya. She said, “While these were really exciting scripts, but somewhere I wanted to do something that the audience have never got a chance to see me as before. Hence, I chose Aranyak to be my digital debut. It really worked well for me. That year was just full of awards. That gamble paid off.”

She continued, “There are many times when I’ve met Ram and Nikhil (Madhok) from Hotstar then, that I said, ‘We have to do something (together).’ I’m really waiting to work with Ram. I had to explain to him why I couldn’t do Aarya. Then he understood my reason.”

In the same interview, Raveena Tandon, who was offered Kuch Kuch Hota Hai by Karan Johar, revealed that Karan still holds her accountable for rejecting Rani Mukerji’s role in the film.

She said, “Till date, Karan (Johar) holds me accountable for not doing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Rani Mukerji’s part). I was like, ‘Yar tu mujhse aur kuchh bhi kara le.’ In fact, there was a Dharma film Varun Sood and me were supposed to do together, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen.”

Revealing the reason behind rejecting KKHH, Raveena had told ANI, “Karan still doesn’t forgive me for not doing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. But he didn’t understand at that time. Kajol was my contemporary. We started together, we were both doing lead roles. So, I couldn’t have done a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, where I was at a lower… where I probably had a smaller role like Rani.”

Festive offer

Karmma Calling will start streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar from January 25.
