Bobby Deol’s career has always experienced significant highs and lows. However, the challenges peaked in the last decade, leading Deol to take a three-year hiatus, starting in 2014. Despite attempting a comeback in 2017, co-starring with his brother Sunny in Deol Shreyas Talpade’s Poster Boys, the film proved to be a box-office failure, further impacting Deol’s career. Nonetheless, he found relief in 2018 when Remo D’Souza’s Race 3 became a hit, despite receiving poor reviews.
Since then, he has been on a trial-and-error process, encountering both successes and setbacks in his projects. After a long time, Bobby Deol’s career witnessed a massive hit in 2023 with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, where he played the antagonist. Earning over Rs 900 crore Animal emerged as the third-highest-grossing Indian film of 2023.
Recently, filmmaker-producer Vikram Bhatt, with whom the actor worked in the 2005 thriller Jurm and shared a close bond, praised Deol and highlighted the influential role played by his mother, Prakash Kaur, in shaping the actor’s personality.
During a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Bhatt noted that Bobby Deol’s simplicity and grounded nature stem from his upbringing. “Sunny (Deol) is also just like this. Their mother, Prakash aunty, is someone who won’t tolerate any nonsense. If you show her any attitude, she will straighten him up. Their upbringing and culture are very correct,” he mentioned.
“Bobby grew up witnessing both his father Dharmendra and brother Sunny experiencing the ups and downs of life. The people we label as ‘nepo kids’ in the entertainment industry too have encountered numerous challenges. It’s easy to categorise someone as a ‘nepo kid,’ but growing up as one presents its own set of difficulties,” he added.
Vikram Bhatt’s latest directorial venture was the supernatural film Judaa Hoke Bhi (2022). In 2023, he also produced another film in the 1920 franchise titled 1920: Horrors of the Heart, directed by his daughter Krishna Bhatt.
