A number of companies announced new ways they are integrating AI into their products, with Amazon unveiling several new third-party Alexa experiences leveraging generative AI. From AI chatbots to music creation tools, Amazon is showing how voice assistants like Alexa can become more useful with the power of large language models.
Partnership with BMW to replace the car manual
One of Amazon’s most intriguing announcements was a partnership with BMW to replace the need for a physical car manual. New Alexa capabilities will allow BMW owners to get to know their vehicle through natural conversation. Rather than digging through complicated manuals, you can simply ask Alexa for recommendations on BMW drive modes or how specific features work. Alexa will respond conversationally with easy-to-understand explanations tailored to BMW cars. This technology aims to simplify the learning curve of features for new BMW owners.
New GenAI Alexa experiences
In addition to BMW, Amazon showcased new Alexa skills developed by third parties with generative AI under the hood. For entertainment, Character.ai offers conversational characters powered by AI, allowing you to get fitness motivation, gain historical insights from figures like Socrates, or get book recommendations from a virtual librarian. Splash applies AI to music creation, letting you build a custom song by dictating genres, lyrics, and more through voice commands. Volley developed a deeper version of the game “20 Questions” using generative AI to interact and converse with players.
Moxie robot, MultiOn personal agent
Amazon also provided updates on AI advancements from the Alexa Fund, its investment arm focused on voice technology. Portfolio companies MultiOn and Embodied displayed their work on AI personal agents and robotics companions. Children can get academic and emotional support from Embodied’s Moxie robot which will be available for purchase in 2024.
AWS partnership with Siemens
Cloud computing subsidiary Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a partnership with Siemens to bring the power of generative AI from AWS to industries globally. Siemens will integrate Amazon’s Bedrock, a service providing high-performing foundation models via a single API, into its low-code platform Mendix. This makes it easy for more customers to quickly and securely build AI into their applications using AWS resources.
