Minimum temperature in and around Pune city has dipped considerably with Shivajinagar reporting 13.2 degree celsius on Sunday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has talked about a possible further dip in temperatures from Monday as cold winds from North India are set to blow over Maharashtra.
On Sunday morning, Pune woke up to a hazy sky and a considerable chill in the temperature. Temperatures across Pune, stood as follows: Shivajinagar reported 13.2 degree Celsius, Pashan at 12.5 degree Celsius, Koregaon Park at 17.9 degree Celsius and Chinchwad reported 18.1 degree Celsius.
These temperatures are lower than the 15-18 degree range Pune and its surrounding areas were reporting for the last week or so. The IMD has talked about a warmer than usual winter for the country. For Pune, this would be the first time experiencing chill winds this month.
Lack of moisture in the air as well as no atmospheric systems has led to clear skies. This, paired with long range radiation at night has significantly cooled the temperature. Starting from Monday December 18, the temperatures are expected to dip further as cold winds from the North would sweep the state. IMD has predicted a 2-3 degree dip in the minimum temperatures.
For the next few days, minimum temperature is expected to touch 10 degree Celsius or dip even further. Most parts of the state are now reporting temperatures between 13-15 degree Celsius.
Even Mahabaleshwar has reported the same temperature range. With Christmas around the corner, the chill winds usher in a festive mood for Pune.
