A local court in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi has handed over the main accused in Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) recruitment scam, Rudragouda Devendrappa Patil, to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody for eight days.
R D Patil who is the mastermind in the recruitment scam has been absconding for 12 days before he was arrested from Akkalkot, Maharashtra on November 11, officials said.
Over the last three years, Patil has had more than 20 cases against him for allegedly facilitating malpractices by candidates appearing for examinations to recruit employees for the state’s police, public works and engineering departments, they said.
The CID Wednesday arrested five people, including Rudragouda Nelogi, an assistant engineer with the minor irrigation department in Belagavi district, S Shivakumar, RD Patil’s relative Siddarama Dattu Koli, Ravikumar Ukkali and Raheem Choudary.

According to a CID source, Nelogi had collected more than 17 aspirants’ hall tickets and sent them to RD Patil. The police have questioned the principals of different colleges to investigate whether the question paper had been leaked.
KEA conducted recruitment examinations on October 28 for various departments, boards and corporations for First Division Assistants (FDA). Over 20 aspirants who attended the examinations in Kalaburagi and Yadgir centres were arrested for using Bluetooth devices in the exam hall. The total arrests have gone beyond 40.
The name of Patil who already has more than 16 cases in the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) recruitment scam surfaced after some of the arrested aspirants revealed his involvement in the fraud.
