Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil on Monday alleged that leaders of the Other Backward Communities (OBCs) were vitiating the atmosphere in the state but the Maratha community will remain firm in its resolve to get reservation.
“While Maratha community is holding peaceful agitation, the OBC leaders are trying to vitiate the atmosphere in Maharashtra. An OBC minister is making statements against us and the Opposition leader is also speaking against us…Come what may, the Marathas are determined to secure reservation,” Jarange-Patil told reporters in Antarwali-Saraati village in Jalna district.
Alleging that the state government was filing false cases against Maratha agitators, Jarange-Patil said, ”Be it in Beed, Parbhani or Solapur, falses are being filed in different districts against Maratha agitators. While the OBC community, the Muslims, the Dhangars are backing the Maratha community, the OBC leaders are vitiating the atmosphere….I want to tell the government that no matter how many false cases it files against us, we will keep fighting for reservation…No matter how much the OBC leaders try…, Marathas will not backtrack on the issue of reservation,” said the Maratha activist stating that the process of giving reservation to the Maratha community has already started.
Jarange-Patil said political leaders will do everything in their capacity to vitiate the atmosphere. ‘I have told the OBC community that we should not fight each other. We should back each other and foil attempts by certain leaders to vitiate the atmosphere…”

The activist’s statement comes in response to recent statements made by NCP leader and state civil supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar, both of whom said that Marathas should not be given blanket reservation.
Rejecting the 10 per cent EWS quota for Marathas, Jarange-Patil said, “The Maratha community knows what is good for them. We want Kunbi certificates for all Marathas. We are firm on our demand for inclusion in the OBC category.We want to be within the 50 per cent reservation limit.”
Meanwhile, minutes after he was discharged from a private hospital on Sunday, Jarange-Patil reminded the state government of December 24–the deadline that he has set for the government to provide reservation for the Maratha community.
