Union Minister of State for Science Dr Jitendra Singh celebrated Diwali at home this year. A day before the festival, he inaugurated a school in the far-flung village of Massu that falls under his Udhampur constituency. On returning to Jammu on Diwali, the minister ensured that he was vocal for local. He and his neighbours in Jammu decorated their homes with 20,000 diyas made by local self-help groups.
Campus Mystery
The University Grants Commission (UGC) finally notified the framework under which foreign universities will now be allowed to set up international branch campuses in India. Last week, the application portal went live. However, the Commission has, until this date, been tight-lipped about the foreign universities that have been in touch with it and shown interest in entering India. It is learnt that apart from Australia’s Western Sydney University (which announced its India plans a little over a week ago), at least three others are (informally) in talks with the UGC, exploring options and potential sites for their India campuses. Among these three, one is from Australia, and another from Italy.
