Two sisters, who stayed at a Brahma Kumaris ashram in Agra, died by suicide late Friday night, leaving behind suicide notes in which they blamed four ashram employees, the police said.

The police said that the sisters, Ekta (37) and Shikha (34), had been staying at the ashram in Agra’s Jagner locality for one year. They were found dead at around 11 pm on Friday. They had also sent their suicide notes to the Brahma Kumaris group and their family members on WhatsApp before ending their lives, the police said.

“Their brother Sonu, who lives around 13 km from the ashram, had rushed to the place after receiving the message on his mobile. We have taken the two suicide notes and their phones in our possession. They accused four employees of the ashram of usurping their money to the tune of Rs 25 lakh,” Kheragarh Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mahesh Kumar said.

The police said that a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Jagner police station against the ashram employees named in the notes. “We have formed police teams to nab the accused who are absconding at present,” ACP Kumar said.
