Two family members of the victims killed on a Jaipur-Mumbai train allegedly by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable have approached the sessions court seeking to intervene in the case. In the first hearing held on Friday before the sessions court, the intervention plea of families of Kader Bhanpurwala and Syed Saifuddin were allowed by the court. They can now assist the prosecution during the trial.
In the early hours of July 31, three passengers and an assistant sub-inspector were shot dead allegedly by Chetan Singh. Singh faces charges of murdering his senior Tikaram Meena, and passengers Asgar Ali Abbas, Abdul Kader Bhanpurwala and Syed Saifuddin. He also faces a section pertaining to promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, based on the evidence by the police that he allegedly killed the three passengers due to a communal bias.

On Friday, the case was committed to Dindoshi sessions court after the chargesheet was filed last month by Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP). One of the intervention applications was filed by Farida Bhanpurwala, wife of Kader, through lawyer Vishnu V Bhatt.
“Applicant (Farida) states that in the present matter, since the applicant is the victim, she may be allowed to assist the public prosecutor/assistant public prosecutor through her advocates in the present matter,” the plea said. It added that no loss or prejudice will be caused to any of the parties. “…but it would be a helping hand to the office of the prosecution but if the same is not allowed then it will cause huge loss and great prejudice to the present applicant,” the plea adds. A similar plea was moved on behalf of Saifuddin by his family.
Singh was not produced from judicial custody. After the attack in July, Singh was arrested while trying to flee after passengers pulled the chain to halt the train near Mira Road station.
