The Mumbai police crime branch recently busted an alleged prostitution racket that operated via an online portal. The police rescued two people including a minor and arrested three alleged pimps. One of the three arrested is a 64-year-old woman, an officer said.
After a tip-off about the prostitution racket operating in a Mumbai hotel, a policeman was sent as a customer. The undercover policeman was sent a photo of girls to select one.
After the deal was struck, the undercover policemen went to the hotel room, while the rest of the team followed suit. They rescued two girls and arrested three alleged pimps identified as Aruna Singh (64), Reshma Shaikh (34) and Rizwan Sayyad (30).
Apart from relevant IPC sections and Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, the police have also slapped sections of Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as one of those rescued is a minor.

The minor girl was sent to a rehabilitation centre, another officer said, and prima facie it appeared that the girl had been ‘sold’ to the pimps by her parents.
“We are on the lookout for her parents to question them. If we find evidence they too may be arrested,” the crime branch officer added.
The arrested accused were produced before a special POCSO court and were remanded in police custody. Police said they were investigating if other accused are involved in the case as well.
