The Congress on Sunday released its final list of 21 candidates for the November 25 Rajasthan Assembly polls. Monday is the last day to file nominations for the Assembly elections.

Cabinet Minister Shanti Dhariwal has been fielded from his Kota North seat. In September last year, Dhariwal was one of three Gehlot camp leaders who had led a boycott of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meet which was apparently called to empower the high command to pick a new CM, said to have been Sachin Pilot. The party high command was said to have been against Dhariwal’s candidature.

Despite campaigns against Minister Zahida Khan alleging corruption by her, she retained the Kaman seat. In Chaksu, Sachin Pilot camp leader Ved Prakash Solanki has been retained after speculation that he might be dropped. Solanki has been one of the most vocal Pilot camp leaders. Nirmala Sahariya has also been retained from Kishanganj.

Of the 21, while four have been retained, eight sitting MLAs have been dropped by the Congress while the remaining nine seats are held by Opposition MLAs.

With the final list, the Congress has declared candidates for 199 seats, leaving Bharatpur Assembly seat for ally RLD. The seat is currently held by RLD MLA and minister of state Subhash Garg.
Cabinet minister Lalchand Kataria has been replaced from Jhotwara with Abhishek Choudhary.

Festive offer

Kataria did not want to contest this time. Similarly, cabinet minister Hemaram Choudhary had expressed his desire not to contest. Hence, the party fielded Sona Ram Choudhary from Gudhamalani seat. Veteran politician and former MP Colonel Sonaram Choudhary (retd.) on Sunday returned to the Congress fold, almost nine years after joining the BJP.

In Udaipurwati, party has fielded Bhagwan Ram Saini after sitting MLA Rajendrasingh Gudha was sacked as a minister for constantly embarrassing the party on various counts, eventually coming up with the ‘red diary’ controversy.

In Bari, the party has fielded Prashant Singh Parmar instead of Girraj Singh Malinga who joined the BJP on Sunday and has been fielded by the BJP. Notably, Parmar too had joined the Congress on Sunday.
