A 65-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Latur district died by suicide in Pune Saturday after writing a note in which he expressed his frustration over his son’s unemployment.
The note also mentioned that the man was disturbed because of lack of reservation for the Maratha community in jobs despite several agitations, many of which he had joined as the sarpanch of his village.
The police have identified the man as Vyankat Narsinh Dhopare. Of late, he was residing with his son Sandip at Narhe Ambegaon in Pune city.
“A case of accidental death was lodged at the Alandi police station and an investigation has been initiated into this incident,” said DCP Sandip Doifode.
The probe so far has revealed that Dhopare left home Friday evening.
The police added that his family members found a suicide note written by him at home. When they tried to communicate with him, it was learnt that he was at the Alandi ghat. His shoes and other belongings were later found at the spot.
Pimpri Chinchwad police and the fire brigade were informed about the incident.

Dhopare’s family members said they have handed over to the police a copy of the note.
The police also said that the note mentions Dhopare was unsuccessful in securing a government job for his son after the death of his grandfather on compassionate grounds. Dhopare’s father had died while in service.
