It was a day of glory for Chandigarh golfer Jairaj Singh Sandhu as the 26-year-old claimed the Haryana Open golf title via a play-off at Panchkula Golf Club on Saturday. The event was organised by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).

On Saturday, Sandhu and Honey Baisoya were tied on an overall score of 18-under-270 before Sandhu edged out Baisoya in the play-off to claim his first professional title and walk home. Sandhu, who was the leader after the first two rounds, slipped to the second spot in the third round.

Starting the final round at second place, Sandhu carded a score of five-under-67 to finish with the overall score of 18-under-270. Baisoya carded a final round score of six-under-66 to be tied with Sandhu before he lost in the play-off. On the play-off hole, Sandhu converted a five-footer shot to edge out Baisoya for the title.

“It feels amazing to win in the presence of my family and friends here at Panchkula Golf Club which is like a second home for me0. It’s an overwhelming feeling and can’t be described. I would like to thank my coach, Jesse Grewal, with whom I’ve been working very hard in the range. I would also like to thank my fitness trainer, physio, my parents and friends for their support,” Sandhu said after the win.

Festive offer

“This week I achieved all the three goals that I had set for myself this season. I played in the leader group, shot a bogey-free round and won my first title. I hung in there through the week. I was in the top two positions from round one to four and maintained the consistency in my game,” Sandhu said.
