A Delhi court on Friday extended by 14 days AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s judicial custody in a money-laundering case related to the alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise case and allowed him to seek regular medical treatment from his private doctor.
“This court sees no reason to reject the permission to seek private treatment… The accused shall be taken to the hospital under adequate security,” said Special Judge MK Nagpal. He further said that Singh’s supporters should not be allowed near the hospital.
Another application moved by Singh, seeking permission to sign cheques to meet his family expenses, was also allowed by the court. It also permitted the AAP leader to sign two letters addressed to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi commissioner in connection with the release of funds for developmental work.
Singh was sent to judicial custody on October 13. Earlier this month, he was sent to the five-day custody of the Enforcement Directorate following 10 hours of searches that ended in his arrest. The central agency claimed that Rs 2 crore had changed hands at his North Avenue home.
Singh’s arrest came after he was named by Dinesh Arora, a businessman and co-accused who turned approver in the ED case.

The ED had called Singh a “key conspirator” while asking for his custody. “Sanjay Singh has exploited and gained illegal money/kickbacks, which is ‘proceeds of crime’ generated from the liquor policy (2021-22) scam… (he) has been part of the conspiracy of collecting kickbacks from liquor groups… (he) has a close relationship with Dinesh Arora since 2017 as revealed by Dinesh Arora as well as from his call records,” the agency stated.
The ED also alleged Singh had ensured that changes in the liquor policy were made through former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia to favour certain businessmen.
The AAP MP had moved the Delhi High Court challenging his arrest in the case as being “politically motivated”. Dismissing Singh’s plea, the high court said it would not “insinuate or impute any political motives” to the ED in the “absence of any material on record”. “This court, without there being any evidence on record, would desist from imputing political affiliations to a premier investigating agency as the reputation of… agency of a country has direct relation to the reputation of a country…,” Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma said.
