A retired assistant commissioner of police allegedly died by suicide by jumping from the seventh floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Matunga.
The police said that the incident took place at around 5.15 pm on Monday after which he was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.
According to the police officials, the retired ACP lived with his wife and two sons in a residential complex at Deodhar Road in Matunga.
His family has told the police that he was suffering from depression and was undergoing treatment.
An officer said, “We have learnt that he consumed alcohol and we believe that there was a fight within the family after which he took such an extreme step.”

The police also suspect that he was under the influence of alcohol when he jumped to death.
“His family was in the house when the alleged incident took place. He went to the refuge area and jumped,” said a senior police officer. The locals alerted the family after which he was rushed to the nearby hospital. He was declared dead before admission.
The Matunga police have registered a case of accidental death report and are probing the matter further. “The former ACP has not left any suicide note behind while the family has also ruled out any foul play,” said an officer.
