The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, set up by the Centre for the construction and management of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, has decided to impart training to youths, aged between 20 and 30 years, as priests ahead of the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla idol scheduled to be held in January next year.
The Trust, in its notification uploaded on its website, said that an entrance test will be held for the selection of the candidates for the priest-training programme. Once selected, each of the candidates will get Rs 2,000 as a monthly stipend along with residential accommodation and food, the notification stated.
“There is an established pattern for prayers and rituals adopted in this (Ayodhya) region for Ram Lalla. The idea is to train qualified youths for the same. This training will be for six months and preference will be given to those from Ayodhya and neighbouring regions,” a member of the Trust told The Indian Express.
Among the qualification criteria required for the training programme, the applicant must have acquired primary “traditional Gurukul” education and received Shri Ramanandiya Diksha.
The last date for submitting the application is October 31. The applications should be sent to the official email ID of the Trust – contact@srjbtkshetra.org.
In the form, the applicants have to give their name, date of birth, gotra, residential and permanent addresses, the name of Gurukul, and the name of the acharya, which is optional.
At the end of the six-month programme, the successful candidates will be given a “Trained Priest” certificate by the Trust. However, for the final selection as a priest of the Ram temple, the candidates after completing their six months of training will have to go through another selection process.
“While there will be a maximum of 20 seats for this training course, only a few, as per their capability, will be selected to become a priest at the Ram temple. This selection will be done through a separate procedure after they complete their training programme,” said the Trust member.
In its notification, the Trust has made it clear that the training programme “is not a contract to do service for the Ram Lalla”. “This training is not a contract to serve Shri Ram Lalla. After the training, priests to serve Shri Ram Lalla will be accepted through a selection process,” said the notification.
