Bollywood dream girl Hema Malini celebrated her 75th birthday on Monday. The who’s who of tinseltown, especially senior actors from the film industry, were in attendance at the party. While many photos and videos from the event went viral on social media, the birthday girl on Wednesday took to social media to share photos from the evening. She also thanked the guests for being with her on her special day.
“16/10/23 was indeed a diamond filled day in my life. Joined by friends, colleagues, family and my fans, the evening was memorable. Dharamji’s presence throughout the event was a blessing. All my esteemed guests responded to my invitation in spite of their busy schedules and their presence made me so happy. Here are some photos of the evening,” Hema Malini wrote.
The first photo had the actor posing with Jeetendra and the next one with Shatrughan Sinha. She then added two pictures with husband Dharmendra as they sat together watching performances on the stage. Hema Malini also posed with Prasoon Joshi, Shabana Azmi and shared the stage with Meiyan Chang, who also performed at the event.
The ‘Dharmendra-Hema Malini-Jeetendra’ angle
Hema and Dharmendra were madly in love in the 70s but given that he was already married, her parents were dead against it. In fact, her mother Jaya decided to play matchmaker between her daughter and then superstar Jeetendra.

She managed to convince Hema Malini to meet Jeetendra’s parents in 1974. They liked the actor, and the two actors flew off to Madras to get married along with their families. Jeetendra’s close friend shared in Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s, Beyond The Dream Girl that he had confided to him at that time, “I don’t want to marry Hema. I am not in love with her. She is not in love with me. But my family wants it, so I might as well. And she is such a good girl.”
Even though the wedding was kept a secret, details of it soon got printed in a news magazine. And it was not just Dharmendra who was left heartbroken but also Jeetendra’s then girlfriend and now wife, Shobha Sippy. They both took a flight to Madras to stop the nuptial, and managed to do so. Dharmendra is said to have had a showdown with Hema Malini’s father, who did not want his daughter to be with him. However, the Sholay actor managed to convince Hema of his love as she decided to call off the marriage. Enraged, Jeetendra’s family also stormed out of the venue.
While Hema Malini married Dharmendra after a few years, Jeetendra too tied the knot with Shobha Sippy.
