After the authorities of Chandigarh’s Tagore Theatre Wednesday publicly refused to book the venue for a political debate as requested by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the government Thursday booked an auditorium at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana for the November 1 debate.
A booking request was forwarded to the Tagore Theatre on October 10.

On November 1, which happens to be Punjab Day, Mann has dared the Opposition leaders to join a debate on the issues confronting the state. Slamming the Opposition, Mann has said their parties and their ancestors are responsible for the mess that Punjab is facing.
Earlier, BJP state chief Sunil Jakhar had refused to be a part of the debate at Tagore Theatre. He had said that he would participate only if the debate was organised at the PAU.
Dr T S Riar, additional director, communications, PAU, said the university has received a booking request for November 1 and the same has been confirmed. “The government can hold any programme in the university’s auditorium but no political party can. Although the booking request has been received, they (government) have not specified what the event is about,” he said.
